Hamilton & Merchant wants every business owner to be able to read this site and reach us, whatever tools they use to browse. This statement describes what we have done, what we know still needs work, and how to tell us when something does not work for you.
Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. The site is built as static pages with semantic HTML, so headings, landmarks, lists, and links carry their meaning to assistive technology.
What we have done
- Every page can be navigated with a keyboard, with a visible focus indicator on links, buttons, and form fields, and a skip link to the main content.
- Text and background colors meet the AA contrast ratio, including on image backgrounds, where a dark overlay sits behind the text.
- Meaningful images carry descriptive alternative text. Decorative images are marked so that screen readers skip them.
- Form fields are labeled, required fields are announced, and error messages are read aloud.
- Page motion, such as scroll reveals and the moving text band, can be turned off with the motion control in the footer. The choice is remembered on your device.
- Text can be resized to 200 percent without loss of content, and the layout adapts to phones, tablets, and desktops.
Known limitations
- Some charts inside long articles are drawn as images or inline graphics with a text summary nearby rather than a full data table.
- Older blog posts are being reviewed for heading order and link text; a few may still have headings that skip a level.
